Tip #1: TIPS for retaining information from novels
- Double stick a set of post-it tabs in the front jacket of the book—use tabs to mark memorable events. You can even color code if you’re type A :)
- Keep a pen or pencil with you and underline important moments and circle all names.
- Make notes in the borders of the book that sum up plot points.
- Keep a book journal. Make notes of main characters and backstories as well as any pertinent plot points
- Make note of films or tv shows that have similar tones or characters
- Find a friend (or book club!) to discuss the book with. The more you talk through it, the more you remember the story.
- Seek out interviews with the author. Their POV of writing the novel often helps reinforce the themes and characters in your mind.
